Making Valentine’s Day Unforgettable in the Berkshires

Making Valentine’s Day unforgettable is the challenge we all face every time the season of love rolls around. Once-upon-a-time, a bouquet of long-stemmed roses spoke all we needed to let someone know how much they are loved. Add a little sparkling wine, a surprise bauble or two, and a heartfelt card and you had the makings of a noteworthy celebration.

Living and working in the Berkshires, a romantic destination at any time of year, we’re privy to a bevy of romantic restaurants, awe-inspiring vistas, and world-class art and culture, all of which can set the tone for a romantic getaway. On any given weekend, guests at the Staveleigh House Bed and Breakfast are celebrating all sorts of romantic occasions, and we embrace every one of them. We host honeymoons, engagements, anniversaries, and babymoons. It is our great privilege to welcome these happy couples.

But when it comes to Valentine’s Day, it seems, some of our guests want something a bit out of the ordinary. We get it. It’s all about making memories together. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, although some may choose to go that route. When searching for unique ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year, look to what makes your relationship so special. Are you a craft beer afficianado? Does chocolate make you swoon? No matter what sets your world on fire, you’ll find that celebrating in the Berkshires will open up a world of possibilities you might never have considered.

Plan a Getaway
Start by booking a room at the Inn. Sometimes a change of venue might be all you need you need to spark the romance in your relationship. Choose any one of our charming rooms, complete with private baths and fine linens. After a great night’s sleep, you’ll awake to a country-style breakfast accompanied by fresh-brewed, locally-roasted coffee.

Indulge in Chocolate
Forget the Whitman’s sampler. For serious chocolate lovers a visit to Chocolate Springs Cafe in Lenox is a must. Owner and chocolatier, Joshua Needleman, began his love affair with chocolate at an early age. Since opening the cafe in 2003, Joshua’s confections have attracted the attentions of Time Magazine, Travel and Leisure, and the New York Times. A visit to this chocolate haven in the Berkshires is sure to turn on the pleasure centers in the brain. Spending an afternoon lounging on comfy sofas immersed in the aromas of velvety hot chocolate and savoring the distinct flavor of champagne cognac truffles and other heavenly confections is a chocolate lovers dream. Be sure to pick up an assortment to bring back to the Inn to enjoy with a glass of wine in front of the fire.

Find a Treasure in a Local Antique Shop
Did you know that the Berkshires is home to more antique shops than anywhere else in New England? And Sheffield, MA is in the heart of it all. As many as 19 shops dot the landscape of “Antique Alley”, the nickname affectionately linked to Route 7, surrounding this historic village in western Massachusetts. From period American-made furniture to Swedish folk art, you’ll find a wealth of treasures to explore on a leisurely ramble through this antique mecca. What could be more romantic than finding the perfect piece to adorn your love nest together on a Valentine’s getaway? It’s what memories are made of.

Make a Scrapbook of Your Relationship.
Let’s face it. You’ve been collecting all sorts of little tokens that remind you of special times you’ve spent together. How fun would it be to gather all the photos, gifts, trinkets, maps, keepsakes, or anything that you have been saving that reminds you of a special/fun/romantic time the two of you spent together. Pack them up in a special bag and surprise your loved one by creating a “memory book” together. Cozy up in front of the fireplace at the Inn with a glass of wine or a local brew and craft away. Check out some of Sheffield’s local  shops to find the perfect tome to hold your memories.
