Update – Lime Rock Park has announced that the Historic Festival 38 races on Saturday, Sept. 5 will be a non-spectator event. The Sunday in the Park Concours d’Elegance • Gathering of the Marques event on Sunday, Sept. 6 will be by advance ticket sales only.
Good news for fans of vintage auto racing! The annual Lime Rock Historic Festival 38 is a go. Planned for September 3-7, 2020 at the historic track in Lakeville, CT, the four-day event always takes place on Labor Day weekend, and will likely be a sellout, as usual. Now is the time to book a room at the Staveleigh House Bed and Breakfast in Sheffield, MA, just 20 minutes from Lime Rock Park where all the excitement takes place.
Starting in 1982, the once-a-year extravaganza draws crowds from around the globe. Classic car collectors, connoisseurs of fine craftsmanship, and wannabe race car drivers throng to the Berkshires to witness hundreds of vintage automobiles compete for bragging rights. Races are grouped by class: pre-war, formula fords, sports cars of the 50s and 60s, etc.
While the highlight of the event may be watching vintage race cars whiz around the 1.5-mile track in a thrilling race to the finish, the weekend is jam-packed with unique and festive activities.

You’ll want to be sure to arrive in plenty of time to find a spot along the 17-mile parade route for the Vintage Race Car & Sports Car Parade. Launching from Lime Rock Park at 4:00 PM, the route winds through neighboring towns and villages before returning to the park.
Friday, Sept. 4, 2020
Friday is the warm-up to the featured racing events. It’s a full day of practice and qualifying for the entrants, two for each class of vehicle, all of which are timed. But, as with any festival, you’ll find lots of entertainment among the concession stands, the midway, and the beer tent between qualifying rounds.
Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020
Saturday the racing begins in earnest and anticipation is thick among the crowd. Choose your favorite group of race cars from among the many featured. From pre-war vintage automobiles to sleekly designed racing machines, the roar of the engines equals the roar of the crowd as they maneuver towards the finish line.
Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020
Sunday in the Park, the signature event of the entire weekend, features swoon-worthy rare and exotic vintage vehicles. Gathered on the Concours d’Elegance, an impressive array of classic cars lay in wait for your viewing pleasure at the Gathering of the Marques. Imagine being in the presence of Shelbys, Aston Martins, Porsches, Peugots, Minis, and Fiats. Rumor has it that this year a very rare BMW CSL “Batmobile” and the equally beautiful Lancia Flaminia may grace the concourse.
