Bringing a wide range of talent to the Koussevitzky Music Shed and lawn, Tanglewood’s Popular Artist series features contemporary artists with a universal appeal.

Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band opens the series on the evening of June 19, 2020. Part of his 2020 North American Tour, this concert highlights tracks from his recently released album, What’s My Name. In addition to shed and lawn tickets, fans can purchase front row and VIP packages that add a commemorative tour shirt, lithograph, and special VIP merchandise.

Trey Anastasio, a founding member of Phish and best known as its lead vocalist, will perform with the Boston Pops on June 20. Blending classical and rock, Anastasio’s collaborations with other iconic musicians, such as Dave Matthews, Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock, and B.B. King, resonate in his original compositions and musical scores.

Judy Collins and Arlo Guthrie round out the opening weekend of the Popular Artist series with an afternoon performance. Featuring special guest Jesse Collin Young, of the Youngbloods, the sublime vocals and eclectic song artistry of Collins combined with the folksy storytelling style of Guthrie are sure to delight the audience.

Brandi Carlile is making her debut performance at Tanglewood on June 26. A singer-songwriter and Grammy-winning artist, Carlile’s style spans musical genres from pop to rock to rhythm and blues, but her country origins shine through.

Also debuting at Tanglewood this year, John Legend, an American singer-songwriter, joins the line-up on August 28. Part of his Bigger Love 2020 tour, Legend joined the exclusive EGOT club in 2018, having won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in one competitive season.

James Taylor returns as the headliner for the 4th of July celebration at Tanglewood. This popular performer, with a lengthy history at Tanglewood, is always a crowd-pleaser and will surely sell out quickly.

  1. Will the popular artists summer of 2020 still be held or like the Boston Pops spring series be canceled due to Covid -19? Thank you.

    • Hi Patricia, we are hoping that some of the popular artist series concerts will still go on this summer, but have not heard anything specific for dates beyond June. I suggest you check the Tanglewood schedule at bso.org for the latest news.
