Nestled in a soothing wooded setting in the Berkshires is the John Andrews Farmhouse Restaurant. The setting alone is worth a visit. Add in the delicious food the establishment serves and diners are in for a real treat.
The building that houses the restaurant was built in the late 1700’s and is part of the original farmstead (the original ice house is also still there). It is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens and a lovely view of the forest. To take it all in, order a cocktail and nurse it on the outdoor terrace, where you can enjoy dinner during warmer months.
Inside the country house, the atmosphere of John Andrews Farmhouse Restaurant is equally relaxing with subdued lighting and a measure of quiet that allows for good conversation ( and on chilly days, a cozy fireplace). It’s a perfect environment for savoring the high-quality of food served. The restaurant specializes in farm-to-table cuisine under the talented hands of Chef Dan Smith. Having grown up on a farm and studied agriculture in college, Chef Dan is ideally suited to the task, and works closely with local farmers and purveyors to create his seasonal farm-to-table menu around what is fresh and available.
The menu includes a range of delicious dishes starting with appetizers, such as p.e.i. mussels with coconut milk and chili lime butter. Entrees include two favorites we enjoyed at a recent dinner: hanger steak with sweet potato puree, mushroom conserve and red onion marmalade; and delectable scallops with cauliflower and bacon risotto. Salads, pastas and a selection of casual fare round out the menu. And don’t forget dessert! John Andrews creates some delectable ones, such as a luscious ricotta and blueberry cake with lavender ice cream.
You’ll find a cozy and intimate bar at the restaurant too—perfect for a quiet pre-or post-dinner drink.
