Though performances are months away, now is the time to plan for the 2019 Tanglewood season. The summer concerts have been announced and tickets will go on sale February 10 at 10:00 a.m.
Tanglewood is one of the premier music festivals in the world, and the summer home of the esteemed Boston Symphony Orchestra. To experience a concert there, in the beautiful surroundings of the Berkshires, is one of life’s great joys. The symphony’s opening night will be July 6 and performances continue into mid-August. Highlights (though it’s hard to pick out just a few!) include a tribute to Sir André Previn (July 6); Verdi’s Requiem with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus (July 13); a performance of Wagner’s Complete Die Walküre (July 27-28); the world premiere of a new work by Pultizer Prize-Winning Composer Kevin Puts, based on the letter of Georgia O’Keefe; and a special evening featuring Yo-Yo Ma performing Bach’s six suites for unaccompanied cell0 (August 18).
As with past seasons, the Boston Pops Orchestra will also take to the stage at Tanglewood this summer with three concerts celebrating the music of John Williams, including the score and film presentation of Star Wars: A New Hope.
Always a favorite, the annual Popular Artists series returns with a series of concerts. James Taylor (July 3-4) is always a top draw. Tanglewood 2019 also features concerts by young musicians of the Tanglewood Music Center, weekly Friday and Saturday evening Prelude Concerts, Saturday morning rehearsals, and Summer Sunday offerings for families.
Visit the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s website for a complete listing of all performances, times and prices. And remember, this is one of the Berkshire’s most popular venues and tickets go fast.
