Barrington Brewery & Restaurant was into farm-to-table before it was even a movement. It’s just the way the home-grown company has always done things. The Great Barrington, Massachusetts, operation is a favorite stopping point for Berkshire visitors and locals who enjoy its creative brews and equally creative fare.
From the get-go, Barrington Brewery & Restaurant sought out local suppliers—such as Taft Farms of Great Barrington. It’s the first east coast brewery to install a solar panel system to supply solar-heated water to the brewery and restaurant. And for more than two decades, the company has maintained an earth-friendly and sustainable business with its recycling and solar practices. That’s the cool backstory of the business. What keeps customers coming back year after year is what’s up front: the great beer and food.
After years of mastering the craft, the brewery turns out a heady number of brews in a wide range of styles, from a light Berkshire Blonde to a big and hoppy Ice Glen IPA to the robust Porter. A fall specialty is “R” Hop, made with hops the company grows itself. There’s something for every taste or time—20 at last count—including several German-style beers, a Prague Pilzner, malty Scottish Ale, English-style brews —and a special for the holidays, the Yule Fuel.
Beer makes its way into many of the tasty dishes served at establishment too, in favorites such as Cheddar Ale Soup, Semolina Ale Bread, and a decadent Chocolate Stout Cake. You’ll find a lot to love here.
