You can’t get a setting much prettier than the one where Land of Nod Vineyard and Winery is located. Nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires, it makes a lovely day trip from Staveleigh House Bed and Breakfast.
Land of Nod Vineyards and Winery is a charming family-owned and operated business situated on property that has been a nationally-recognized farm for more than 200 years. A pride in American craft and heritage is a big part of what goes into every bottle it produces.
The name for the winery comes from a poem by British author Robert Louis Stevenson, but the wines are pure Berkshire born and blended. Grapes are grown in the farm’s vineyards and turned into a variety of pleasurable wines. Notable among them is Ironmaster, a red blend that is aged in local Connecticut oak barrels and has hints of currants, black cherry and pepper. Another red, Artisan Field Blend, is a bold and fruity wine made in an old-fashioned Italian-American manner, from grape varieties that were planted, harvested, and fermented together.
Among the white wines are Fly Fisher, a refreshing sip with fruit and floral notes; and Bianca, a light-bodied white with a flavor of honey and Bosc pear. Land of Nod also makes three non-grape wines: Blueberry-Raspberry Medley, Peach, and a Chocolate Raspberry dessert wine.
