From the fresh local veggies it uses to the much-lauded wine list, Cafe Adam just seems to consistently do things right. When we recommend this Great Barrington, Massachusetts, restaurant to our Staveleigh House guests, we know they will come home happy.
The decor at Cafe Adam, though modern and sleek, evokes a welcoming warmth thanks to white walls, dark wood floors and chairs, and green plants scattered about. It also has a bar area that is cozy and inviting and many choose to dine here. Dress is casual, service is outstanding, and the food is worthy of all the acclaim Cafe Adam keeps getting. The restaurant keeps its own garden and the farm-to-table mentality is definitely on display in the seasonal menu.
An order of the tasty bar chips makes for good snacking while perusing the menu. Oysters are always a popular starter, and the restaurant offers specials on them in winter and spring. Black Angus steak frites is a personal favorite—a pairing made in culinary heaven, served with green garlic butter and house-made ketchup. There’s nice variety on the menu with several chicken, fish, and meat entrees, as well as good choices for vegetarians.
Cafe Adam maintains an exceptional wine list and was recently awarded Wine Spectator’s Best Award of Excellence for its extensive selection (more than 3,700 bottles!), the only free-standing restaurant in western Massachusetts that’s garnered such an honor. And good news for diners: the prices are very reasonable. You’ll also find select craft beers on tap and 20 well-chosen bottled beers, as well as a full selection of cocktails.
