When guests ask us for a dining recommendation, one place we love to recommend is Castle Street Cafe in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. It’s just a 10-minute drive from the Inn, and always a treat.
Walk into Castle Street Cafe and you’ll know why it’s one of the Berkshires’ notable spots. The dining room exudes a warm and comfortable feeling, with dark wood trim and and white-clothed tables. Just the right setting for a menu that shines.
Chef Michael Ballon has owned the Castle Street Cafe for 27 years and has earned a reputation throughout the Berkshires for his farm-to-table cuisine, and locally-sourced ingredients. The menu is creative and delicious, with starters such as roasted Brussel sprouts with sopresetta; or a savory ginger, scallion and mung bean pancake. Main courses include a lineup of comforting dishes, such as meatloaf or braised short ribs, both served with mashed potatoes; or soothing chicken Parmesan served over linguini. There is also a lineup of fresh salads, and of course delectable desserts.
Stop by the restaurant now through April 28, 2017, Sunday through Thursday, and you can enjoy a three-course prix-fixe meal for just $29. On Fridays and Saturdays there is live jazz and it’s always excellent. Adjacent to the restaurant is the Celestial Bar, a friendly, pub-style alternative that offers a special bar menu.
